How Claude API Pricing Works
Claude API pricing is based on tokens — the basic units of text processed by the model. Every request includes input tokens, which are the content you send, and output tokens generated by Claude. Both are billed.
On Claude API Tech, usage charges are deducted from your balance according to the actual token usage of each request. Rates for the same models are exactly 50% below Anthropic's official prices.
What Are Tokens?
For English text, one token is roughly 4 characters or about ¾ of a word. This is only a guide: the actual count depends on the model, language, and content.
- "Hello, world!" — approximately 4 tokens
- A 1,000-word English article — approximately 1,300 tokens
- A typical code file — approximately 500–2,000 tokens
